About Us

Beginning with a small group of committed people, KHANPUR AZAD GRAM UNNAYAN SAMITY was formed in the year 1987 attempting to transform its beliefs into reality. It is an organization based in the District Malda of West Bengal. It got formally registered in 1995.We started our activities with one non-formal education and vocational training center for women in the village Khanpur during  last seventeen years our activities have been broadened in the fields of female literacy, formal education for children, nonformal education, rural employment, income generating skills, SHG formation, community health and awareness programmes on various social issues. The activities reach out to poor and marginalized women, adolescents and disadvantaged and marginalized children from rural areas of Malda district. KAGUS journey owes much to the unflagging support of a large number of friends, supporters and well-wishers of Chanchal II Block, Malda district.

      KAGUS is a well-recognized nongovernmental organization (NGO) in Malda, West Bengal and has various donations related permissions. Donors are entitled to Income tax rebate under 12A, 80G. For Foreign donors our Organisation has an FCRA account. KAGUS aims at Rural Welfare Reforms for the Indian every Woman and Girl Child, Social welfare and Health Welfare. It is an Indian NGO for Social Services, Indian Child Welfare Services, and Welfare for the Rural Woman, Rural Education and Self Employment.

This is glorious that we have successfully completed seventeen years towards our mission. In this connection  I , on behalf of the organization, convey greetings, good wishes and endless thanks to the active community leaders, grass root workers, beneficiaries and our bonafide office  workers who coped with the stress of activities gladly and co-operated every time with the valued counsel. We also pay our thanks to the District Administration, Govt. of West Bengal, Ministry  of Labour, Govt. of India, AHVY- Ministry of Textile (Handicraft), Govt. of India, West Bengal Social Welfare Advisory Boards, Central Social Welfare Board, NABARD (MEDP,SHPI), Nehru Yuba Kendra, W.B Minority Development and Finance Corporation W.B Backward Classes Development Corporation, DM, DSWO, DIC of Malda district, BDOs with officers and PS board of Chanchal-II & Ratua- II, local MP, MLA, Dept.          Khanpur Azad Gram Unnayan Samity (KAGUS) since its inception has been working for the development of,, SC/ST and backward Muslim Minority poor needy people in 300 backward villages in Chanchal Sub-Divisional area in Malda District of West Bengal.  KAGUS has been directly addressing the issues of poverty, ignorance, illiteracy, poor health and sanitation, women discrimination, food and income insecurity, natural disasters, Handicrafts development etc. Women’s empowerment, micro finance, Health and hygiene, Education, environment had been the focus of interventions. Activities taken up were community organization and its strengthening, formation of SHGs and their awareness, capacity and skill building, food and income security programs, alliance building and networking for addressing the issues jointly, advocacy and lobbying for their livelihood and basic rights and providing basic services in the field of education, health, sanitation, the basic focus was to struggle for the protection of child rights – The rights of basic need of children, right to protection, right to education, right to health, right to freedom (The right to dignity through the protection of physical and mental integration).etc

The process that makes the people aware and conscious about their own problems and to make them involved about their own problems is more and more helpful and useful than making the people dependent on other and idle which we never expect. Amidst all these progress, the existing project activities and the work of all the continuing programme were performed smoothly, The key ingredients to our success are our talented staff members, officers and the helpful community leaders and community volutes,
